And Just Like That!

Here we are nearly at the end of January already. Soon everything will be awash with hearts and flowers, beautiful words promising sweet wine and roses ~ The card that arrives, hopefully, asking. 'Be My Valentine'.

I love St. Valentines Day, what a lovely opportunity to put pen to paper and write something special to someone you love; A lover, a significant other, mother, father, sister, brother, or friend... It doesn't have to be a romantic love, albeit that is part of what St. Valentine is all about — Courtly love.

I've just finished reading The Scarlet Lion by Elizabeth Chadwick, one of my favourite authors of all time. It is another beautiful work of fiction, telling the story of the later years of William Marshal, 1st Earl of Pembroke, and yes, it was dappled with the romance of courtly love.

Of Knights and their ladies. Jousting and big battles.

I'm also a fan of Bernard Cornwall and Minette Walters too, and I haven't read this type of historical fiction for a while. I've been head down in children's middle grade fiction doing research. But it has reminded me how much I love this genre, and it's inspired in me a concept for another MG, (middle grade) novel, with series potential, it will possibly end up as YA (young adult). Who knows! But I'm excited.

So, after taking some time out over the Christmas summer break (I'm blogging from Auckland, New Zealand), I got up at 5am today for my first zoom meet of the year with one of my writing groups and BOOM! Off and running. I have started one of my children's picture books which I hope to query in the coming weeks; one query I have already submitted today within my P2P group, and fingers crossed I am chosen to do a live pitch with James McGowan of Bookends Literary Agency.

It feels so good to be back into it. I've been procrastinating just a little, and taking some well needed rest.

But it's time, and I'm glad.

The creative juices are flowing freely once again.

Please feel free to leave a comment, I'd love to hear from you.
