About Me

I write under my pen name M.R. Rogan. I chose this name in honour of my late Nan, Mary, my Dad's Mum. Our ancestors hale from County Donegal, in the Republic of Ireland. My Nan was the one who read to me often when I was a child.

I’ve been in recovery with a head injury since April 2019. One of my favourite sayings is 'When life gives you lemons, make lemonade'. So with this in mind, at the beginning of 2020, I took the plunge and decided to start my career as an author and began writing my first novel.

Then covid struck the world, and lockdown really helped me focus. There’s only so much homemade bread one can bake and consume.

​

I came up with the main character and rough concept for my debut novel back in 2005. What a delight it has been to see it morph and come alive. The creativeness has certainly helped my recovery too. Firing up those neurons.

​

In November 2021 I completed my first manuscript (a middle grade magical realism adventure). My family and close friends have been a great encouragement and source of support.

​

2022 - After completing the first round of professional edits, and receiving feedback from some carefully chosen beta readers, I did some re-writes.

​

2023 - Had a bit of a health hiatus. I have now begun the query/submission journey for book one. My current WIP is book two - Fizzy Wigg And The Firestone.

 

2024 - I am workshopping, writing, entering competitions, networking, and querying but above all I'm hoping that one day soon I will land my dream agent and a great book deal - Onwards and upwards...
 

The journey so far has been a steep learning curve: of the industry I have made my home, the craft of writing and the whole sphere of being an author — I can honestly say I am excited by the possibilities. Terrified! But excited! 

 

I have always loved reading and writing. I won a middle school creative writing competition through WHSmith in the UK back in the 70’s, my only claim to any writing gongs so far.

Glad to finally be doing what I love.

 

Now writing is my business and my happy place.

​

I will always aim for my writing to be educational, fun and memorable.
